Portia grew up in Monterey Bay, California. Her journey as a Doula developed in 2018 after the unexpected turn of events with her son’s birth. She did not feel supported or was even slightly prepared for a great birth experience. Since that time, she knew if it happened to her, it was likely to happen to another mom and that’s how she decided to become a doula.

Portia Harris grew up in Monterey Bay, California. Her journey as a doula began in 2018 after an unexpected experience with the birth of her son. During that time, she did not feel supported or adequately prepared for a positive birth experience. Realizing that many other mothers may face similar challenges, Portia felt called to become a doula so she could help families feel informed, supported, and empowered during pregnancy and birth.

Since then, Portia has obtained certifications and training to support mothers and their families through every stage of pregnancy and early parenthood. Her training includes birth and postpartum doula support, childbirth education, lactation counseling, and newborn care.

Today, Portia serves families throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Baltimore areas. She is passionate about continuing her education and hopes to one day become an IBCLC, nurse, or midwife. Portia is dedicated to supporting families and helping fill the gap for those who may otherwise experience a lack of support, education, and empowerment during their birth journey.
