Jenn Carlson CD, CBE

Jenn is one of the most highly experienced and extensively trained doulas in the Washington D.C. area, having supported over 700 families through their birthing and postpartum journeys. Jenn brings a holistic and compassionate approach to her care as both a birth and postpartum doula. She incorporates techniques from Bradley and Hypnobirthing classes and frequently uses acupressure, rebozo techniques, and TENS units to provide personalized comfort and support.

In addition to her extensive experience, Jenn has specialized training in supporting survivors of abuse and families who have experienced infant loss. She is especially passionate about empowering high-risk parents, drawing on her journey, to ensure they feel confident and informed about their medical care options.

When she’s not supporting families, Jenn has balanced a quarter-century career in IT and theatre. She is also a human sexuality educator with the Our Whole Lives program, a Girl Scout leader, and an advocate for inclusion for those with disabilities. She resides in Springfield, VA, with her husband Eddie, a rock musician and film critic. Together, they are raising two daughters, whose challenging birth experiences inspired Jenn’s unwavering dedication to advocating for birth choices and breastfeeding.

Jenn is a graduate of Norwich University: the Military College of Vermont. She is CBI and DONA Trained, Madriella Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Doula Workshop Provider. In addition, she is a Childbirth Educator, an AHA Infant CPR instructor, a certified Usui Reiki practitioner, and an independent encapsulation specialist.   She has attended both Bradley and Hypnobirthing classes and in her practice frequently uses acupressure, rebozo, and TENS units as comfort measures. Jenn also has experience and training in working with victims of abuse as well as parents who have experienced infant loss.
