Reasons to Call Your Provider
Some women experienced health complications when pregnant, and this is a common fear for many women. The purpose of this list is to have a cheat sheet for when to reach out to your provider. It does not replace information from your provider about your specific situation.
In pregnancy:
- Fever over 100.4°F (38°C)
- Severe and persistent vomiting
- Severe headache
- Vision disturbances, such as seeing spots, auras, or double vision
- Rapid weight gain
- Sudden swelling in hands, feet, or legs (symmetrical or asymmetrical)
- Swelling in the face or around the eyes
- Upper abdominal pain on the right side
- Regular contractions (6 or more per hour) before 37 weeks
In labor:
- Fever over 100.4°F (38°C)
- If your bag of water has broken
- Vomiting with contractions
- Rectal pressure
- Sharp pain in the right shoulder
Postpartum:
- Fever over 100.4°F (38°C)
- Foul-smelling or unusual vaginal discharge
- Increase in vaginal bleeding or clots larger than a small lemon
- Pain or burning with urination
- Uterine pain
- Lump, hard area, or pain in the breast
- Red, tender, swollen area on a leg or one leg larger than the other
- Difficulty breathing
